Sound is improving

Maybe it was the abrupt change to horns that caught me off guard. Maybe the speakers needed a break-in period after sitting idle in someone's bedroom for years. But I have played the Cornwall's all day long and the sound is excellent, the harshness has subsided, and the bass is very full and tight.
My Legacy-Coda amps are not slouches. The front end is designed to provide a slew rate of 50 V/us without entering Class B operation, have a top-quality 1400 VA toroidal transformer, independent rectifiers, about 100,000 uf of total capacitance with very low ESR and inductance. Each channel uses 10 individual output transistors with a combined power rating of 2000 watts and 75 Amps with a bandwidth of 10 Mhz. The current stage is capable of producing peak currents in excess of 50 peak Ampheres, employs a "precision bias" technique, and no overall feedback correction is used. The matched preamp has FET input stages, differencial voltage gain, direct coupling without servo curcuitry, class A complimentary followers, no feedback correction.
In short, nearly four grand of quality engineered solid state.
My Elco Audio Cables, the GI-999R and GI-999x, are high purity (99.99%) gold spiraled signal conductor wrapped with multiple layers of a proprietary porous Teflon insulation and equiped with a gold plated 19 AWG pure silver return wire. Swiss-made Netrik Pro-Fi connectors with flexible expoxy resin seals.
One could argue that that these IC's approach the quality of a test bed system. Unfortunately my speaker wire is only Kimber 8PR. However, changing it to this from shot-gunned 4TC made a world of difference. I tried basic monster heavy duty speaker wire and IC's, but the loss of sound quality was intolerable.
The speakers are 11 feet apart sitting directly on an oak floor with a large Persian rug in front of them. My listening distance is also 11 feet away dead center.
The speakers are one-owner 1986 Cornwall II (as stated on the binding post plate) that came in unfinished birch. Unfortunately theowner damaged and disposed of the tags when he finished them.
I can't say how tubes would sound, but my setup is sounding better by the minute.
