Re: Im using a 45 on some Forte' II speakers for now

I just wanted to make sure you werent totally green to tube amps.

The HF-81 is VERY well reguarded and sought afrer. Rightfully so as you know.

Ive have experence with EL84 PP EL34 PP 6550 PP and KT100 SE and PP

Other than SE-P, (the PP guys will hate me) but its been my experience that a well designed SET will simply sound better, for the most part, when properly matted to a speaker. SET have limitations, power mostly. And can be a bit analitical at times. But overall there is nothing else like it (in a positive sense).

The smaller Klipsch speakers, like yours and mine, tend to sound a bit less effecient than they are rated at. Like I said, right now I only have a 2 watt 45 amp driving mine, but its in a room thats only about 12x12. So I have no issues with volume. In a room like yours I may feel a bit cheated vol wise. If it were a K-horn Id probably be fine (minus some sub bass, maybe).

SET amps simply need the right speaker to shine. And many (not all) of those speakers can be a bit bass shy. LIke in my living room I have Fostex Sigma 168 in rear horns with horn tweeters being driven by a 300b amp with a sub being driven by a plate amp. SOunds amazing. Im still no where near done. But Im VERY happy for now.

I think youll be OK with a 2a3 or 300b on your rig. You will no doubt do some experimenting and changeing over time. Hell its how most of us (myself) learn the little we know. Its really quite fun if you have a good att about it.

Do a pile of searching here on AA and youll learn what would normally take yrs of lurking and reading other wise. Again take ALL our remarks with some salt. One thing youll learn is we ALL think a BIT different. Thats the great part about it, oh so many options.

Just ask us if you want some input. Most are friendly!

ALl the best
