I'm trying very hard not to make a value judgement about which of TJ or WE are better. I know the review you are talking about, I too have written a review of both tubes that is quite well known. Indeed my review was in quite inline with the one you mention. I have to say that in the system used at that time the WE's were fabulous in the mid but quite poor in the bass. What's so difficult is that very small system differences can tip the balance very easily.

My current system has very revealing 100db efficiency speakers using a close to WE91 amp. With this system WE or Svetlana are personally speaking preferable to TJ Mesh. I used to use less revealing speakers with a triode driving the 300B and here the TJ was better. Are the more "revealing" components "better" than the less revealing ones? I don't know, maybe the less revealing components are more forgiving and therefore more likely to give long-term pleasure.

Ultimately it's all about synergy and personal preference
