Re: Casting platform for 14" john

Posted by KenOhki on April 8, 2003 at 18:48:40:

I am planning on doing that very thing to my 14.5 foot fiberglass game fisher. Originaly, I was going to simply drop a piece of plywood over the top and bolt it down through the top of the gunwalls. a few braces and I would be done,, However,, Now I intend to make my casting platform lower in the boat for stability. My boat has like a step in the bow, I am gonna use that for front support, and build a frame out of 2x4's riped down too 2x2s. I plan on using marien plywood for the deck, 1/4 thick, coated with fiberglass resin. The bottom framework will contour the boat between the middle seat and front step, so it moving wont be a problem. I need my deck to be removable to ocomidate passengers. SO I plan on making more or less a drop in deck. There will be 1 access panle in my deck so I dont loose out on storage capasity, more likely then not, the batterie and fuel tank will go under there. I am concidering using a slight bow to the plywood deck for strenght, However I think I will just use a extra brace or 2 underneath and make it flat for simplicity.
