Vinnie Moore, "April Sky"

Posted by Luminator on July 6, 2023 at 18:20:37:

Oh my oh my. 35 years ago, many of my friends had come out to San Francisco's Sunset District, to play softball. Once the fog cleared, it was gorgeous. My friend Skull had Vinnie Moore's new album, Time Odyssey, on cassette. An all-instrumental affair, this album ended with a song called "April Sky." As we packed our stuff, and were about to disperse, "April Sky" was pure magic.

"April Sky" is an electric guitar transcription of Bach's "Air on the G String," which is the intro; and a middle movement of Bach's "Piano Concerto No. 5." A couple months later, I would, via these same friends, meet my future wife. She played violin in our high school orchestra, and loved Moore's "April Sky." To this day, it's one of her favorites, and when she's judging audio products, they damn well better do a good job on "April Sky."

Had our wedding banquet lasted another half an hour, "April Sky" was on the playlist.
