Chris Isaak, "Let Me Down Easy"

Sigh, when 2002 is 15 years ago, who can blame us for feeling old? Anyway, in 2002, I worked for a small real estate company, which, in the post-9/11 era, had numerous vacancies. We liked using an old commercial space, which had a bar, as a dance club. When we ourselves (as opposed to DJs) played music, we did not restrict the use of heartache or breakup songs. The ex-wife of one of the owners had the then-new CD from Chris Isaak, Always Go Tonight. And she just loved "Let Me Down Easy." When the others heard that song, they gathered, didn't say much, and just listened. Then they had her play it again.
Many of the audiophiles who email me have never been here to the Bay Area. It's just too expensive, for them to come out here. That's why they repeatedly ask me, in the context of the music, to paint pictures of local life. "Let Me Down Easy" is Bay Area comfort music. It makes you one with the coast's warm sun and cool marine air. The more we Bay Area denizens write about home, the more vivid and colorful these audiophiles' dreams are. And when the dreams fade, everyone can then enjoy the music in his or her own way.
Still...2002 was 15 friggin' years ago?! Damn.
