Scorpions, "No One Like You"

Let's go back 35 years, to this time in 1982. Music video was in its infancy. You can't possibly understand the impact the video for the Scorpions' "No One Like You" had on us. It took place in San Francisco and Alcatraz. And where was I? Going to elementary school in - you guessed it - the Marina District. Hey, if you went on the roof, looked north, and peered over the buildings, you could see Alcatraz.
This video seemed to put hard rock and San Francisco on the map. Later in the 80s, when my friends and I would go to Scorpions concerts, what set them apart was that they played with passion. Indeed, "No One Like You" sports some interesting Rudolph Schenker guitar work, coupled with Klaus Meine's heartfelt vocals.
No, there are no great white sharks in the Bay. There might be prey, but great whites are too smart, to venture into the brackish, boat-traveled, and polluted Bay. When you hear "los tiburones," that means the harmless leopard sharks.
At the end of Pier 39 used to be a sort of Hollywood-type store, which sold, among other things, rock t-shirts. Yup, from that store, you had a clear view, fog or no fog, of Alcatraz. From Pier 39, it was a short walk to the iconic Tower Records on Jones & Columbus. Initially, we'd buy the Scorpions' Blackout on cassette, later on CD. Yup, many of my friends attended Francisco Middle School, which wasn't far from Tower, Pier 39, and the wharf area. Yup, we loved going to the concrete jungle of North Beach Playground [now called Joe DiMaggio Field], and listening to a boombox blare the Scorpions. Yup, that is how we audiophiles were born.
Nope, as a native San Franciscan, I've never set foot on Alcatraz. I've been on many boats around Alcatraz, but have never actually visited the island.
