Lita Ford, "Shot Of Poison"

Posted by Luminator on February 12, 2017 at 21:52:35:

Valentine's Day 1992 was a Friday, and thus, could be considered part of the long Presidents' Day weekend. That was my junior year of college, about which you can read a little more here.

My friend ACS, then a freshman at Cal, tagged along with one of her girlfriends, who actually attended S.F. State. They reserved two spots on the UCSC-Cal jitney. That evening, when they got off the jitney in front of McHenry library, they saw that they were surrounded by redwood trees. The girlfriend went off with her boyfriend, who lived out at UCSC's Oakes College. ACS then walked with me to the Crown-Merrill apartments. All throughout that walk, she was expecting UCSC to be as densely crowded as Cal. So when she saw nothing but plants, she blurted out, "Where is everyone?"

I had to point out that, even if she were to come back during during daylight, be it weekday or weekend, UCSC was sparsely-populated, did not have large crowds.

I listened to Lita Ford's "Shot Of Poison" after my last Friday class, but well before ACS' arrival. So that song does remind me of the anticipation I had.

"Shot Of Poison" was never that popular. After all, it came out in the grunge aftermath. But that's actually a good thing, because when you play it, people, unfamiliar with it, will inquire about it. And since it is a "safe" rock song, it is acceptable not just to regular people, but to audiophiles as well.

One of my audiophile friends wrote: "Geez, I've never heard this before. No, it doesn't turn back the clock [to 1992], and no, it doesn't make me 25 years younger, but I like it and it expands my database."

Hmmm, the music has become a "database..."
