How should a person audition?<<It's a very good question, without an easy answer. People with well-trained ears, I suspect, can just listen. For the rest of it, we're probably going to just do the best we can, make a lot of expensive mistakes, and learn from them. And learn over time what we like, and how to listen for it. I, personally, think reviews are really important for those who aren't all that experienced. A component with several good reviews, especially if they're by people you trust...that you also like the sound of, provides a measure--a small measure--of protection against inexperience.
I think the best answer, though, is to expect to make mistakes.
