It is not tracking ability that is the most important in listening quality, OR we would all just use Shures, just like we did 40 years ago. Many phono cartridges are judged to sound better than Shure cartridges, that is why we spend so much money to get one of the 'other' cartridges. However, you will never know this. If CheapJack is also using a Shure, then he is probably OK where he is, with his preamp. I will probably never know, nor do I need to, at this time. Stick with the slow stuff, and you will not have to worry about slew rate to any extent.
