After reading all this stuff, one thing hasn't been mentioned... RFI can induce jitter - even after any transmission and reception. All digital clocks are based on transitions of square waves and the "squareness" of a square wave depends greatly on the odd harmonics of the fundamental being present and in the correct proportions.
RFI interference certainly has the ability to distort a square wave even it is well above the transmission rate of digital data but this can have effects on any digital timing triggered by the edges of a square wave. This can still happen at a point after the recovered clock is "fixed".
