Firewire over USB

Posted by Gordon Rankin on November 3, 2004 at 14:43:14:

Drew,

The problem is that Firewire does not have the chip sets or the software drivers available yet. Most of the stuff requires custom software which in many cases has been problematic.

Apple OS 10.3.xx has drivers for the Oxford Semiconductors Firewire Audio chip set but it has many problems to overcome because of induced jitter and stuff.

USB on the other hand has pretty firm drivers on all platforms and they only require about 2MHz of the 12/400MHz bandwidth of USB.

Thanks
Gordon
