Re: OTLs, QUAD 988 and ZEROs

Posted by Gardiner on November 15, 2004 at 09:32:03:

I have been using the combination of Atma-Sphere M-60MkII.2, Quad ESL-988 and Speltz Zero autoformers for over a year. No speaker cable is used, as the M-60s sit just behind the Quads. I also use a REL Storm III subwoofer.

The sound is superlative in every way. The Zeros are connected to double the impedence to 16 ohms which eliminates the upper midrange suckout and increases the M-60 output to about 80 Watts. Comparison of the sound before and after the insertion of the Zeros leaves no doubt about the effectiveness of this set up. More gain, more soundstage, more depth, more air.

And remember, the autoformer is not a transformer.
