is the name i saw on a medical order. i promptly went to the ER and requested from the personnel if i could go see if this were THE Louis Bellson, and was granted the priveldge.
sure enough, it was and he'd been tapped by a car in a crosswalk just before the namm show in LA. i talked and reminisced with him for about 10 min as i had previously taken care of pearl about a decade and a half ago.
it was very easy talking to him and upon my exit, he offered HIS hand to me for a nice exit greeting! what a nice man. i had admired his playing since first hearing skin deep and the mooche (a 7" 45rpm record my sister had) many decades ago. i recently had acquired the ellington LP it was from in decent condition
Louis is surely one of the greats, in more ways than one.
