Any thoughts on Edgar Meyer's new one?

I just ran across the new cd from Edgar Meyers, J.S. Bach's Unaccompanied Cello Suites on the double bass. As much as I love Edgar, and the fact that he may be one of the best on that instrument, listening to him pretend that thing is a cello just did not do it for me. I listened to a bit of it at Barnes & Noble the other night. I don't know if anyone else has tried something like this before, but as technically good as he probably is playing on the cd, it just came across as plodding and slow. Probably due to the low end sound of the instrument, and the fact that with a neck that big and long, you just can't play that fast I guess.
I do admire the attempt to push the limits of the insturment however. Now if he would try Tchaicovsky's Violin Concerto....
