Neil,

During my days in college, this sounds just like my own experiences/practices for "survival" (Ie-the "starving" student while paying for apartment rent). Any opportunity for a "free" meal/beverage was a welcomed festivity. "Best" memory in that time was 4 of us painted an elderly woman's house before the oncoming winter months. Our intentions were strictly altruistic, but the woman learned through casual conversation that 3 of us (myself included) were unable to visit family that year during the American holiday called "Thanksgiving" (November). She was gratified with our work, and we refused any money that she offered, but graciously accepted her offer for a Thanksgiving dinner in her freshly painted house. To this day, I remember this dinner as some of the finest "home cooking" and really enjoyed the time sharing with my friends. Nice thread bringing nice memories back to the "forebrain", thanks !!!
