greatest torchsongs

Posted by halfnote on July 30, 2020 at 16:38:35:

there are songs of fresh heartbreak, like the immortal ONE FOR MY BABY and THE GAL THAT GOT AWAY (no better renditions that those of Sinatra).

but there is another group of songs with a longer longing ... songs that reach back into the distant past, bring it into the present, and resurrect passions which, though they have long slept lain dormant, are re-animated by a fleeting thought or association, like these

DEEP PURPLE
SERENADE IN BLUE
BEGIN THE BEGUINE

"to live it again, is past all endeavor ..."
-- Cole Porter

Can anybody think of some others? but such songs are RARE!
