I would hope that the newer buildings are built to more strict standards these days

I guess we shall see.

Back around 2001, when I used to work in SF, somebody estimated that if an earthquake knocked out all the glass in the buildings in the Financial District, the broken glass would be eight-feet high down at street level. Maybe that was just one of those urban legends. But as I say, I guess we shall see.
