An Event: New Complete Bartok SQ's with the Heath Quartet, but Do They Beat the Early Juilliards? Will Anybody?

Posted by jdaniel@jps.net on June 8, 2017 at 09:16:15:

I listened to the Heath's last movt of the remarkable 5th Quartet over at eclassical, then my reference: the '49 Juilliard.

The Juilliard got my foot tapping. (A particularly "fun" passage is cued-up below.) The Heath QT doesn't seem to have internalized music yet, or they don't get Bartok's playful side.

Still a good deal at $15 bucks and there are the other five quartets that may suit the Heath's better.
