Alexandra Soumm - a below the radar babe violinist!

Posted by Chris from Lafayette on April 12, 2017 at 11:04:59:

Sometimes I'll get private e-mails from some of the inmates here - even some who haven't posted for a long time. I received one this morning from an inmate in just that situation, and, reading between the lines of his note, I could tell that perhaps one of the reasons he hasn't posted here for a long time is that he may be intimidated by the prudes who come out of the woodwork every time a babe musician observation is posted. Sad! ;-)

Anyway, he wanted to alert me to the wonderful playing of Alexandra Soumm, a half-Russian, half-French violinist who had recently performed the Sibelius Concerto with his local orchestra. Alexandra was first mentioned on this board (in glowing terms, I might add) in 2002, when she was only 13. (And I'll remind everyone that that was a couple of years BEFORE I first joined here - so it seems that the tradition of posting about babe musicians was well underway before I did any posting here! LOL!)

I did some checking and could find only two CD's which she's released: a Bruch/Paganini Concerto combo, and the complete Grieg Sonatas. OTOH, there's a fair amount of uTube videos available (including one of the Konyus Concerto - an unjustly neglected work which Heifetz used to play), so I've linked to one below (the Grieg C-minor Sonata). She seems to have an aggressive view of the piece, which is certainly valid IMHO, and she pulls it off well. Worth a listen IMHO!
