Been Bammed - But Now I'm Back - Been Elsewhere

Posted by Newey on April 8, 2017 at 00:22:36:

Yes, bammed.

Suddenly - bam - you can't post no mo'.

To the relief of all of my followers and disciples, it appears that I've been reinstated. Whew.

Everyone may relax.

BTW - anyone agree that Penderecki's a major major composer of the post WWII generation?

Anyway, whilst I was barred from entry; while I was persona non grata; whilst I was cast out of Eden, I muddled around and found another site. Jeez. I really have to get around to posting my mini-series about classical music people [hopefully before I'm bammed again]. What a sorry, sorry bunch.

What I've found over there is a combination really untutored, uninformed classical folks, some apparently decently informed folks, and at least one composer. There might be more highly musically educated people - it remains to be seen.

But, in the meantime, there're lots of erroneous ideas about music being posted by people who are rock-solid sure they're absolutely God-like correct, even tho they haven't a clue as to what they're talking about.

I posted a sarcastic response, which was deleted immediately.

This site's a bit like going back to Audioasylum back in 1999. That's what I used to battle over here, back in the day [when the earth was young ---].

Specifically, people who've formed ideas about technical music concepts which are slightly wrong, or totally wrong, but who think they're completely correct. Mostly, these people have no formal music theory training, so they've wrestled with trying to understand various points of music theory and music history. Lacking an ability to ever understand either, and without any teachers in either, they've cobbled together ideas based mostly on liner notes reading, some magazine reading, maybe the odd program note from the odd concert they've attended --- pow --- out comes a wrong-way, totally wrong bundle of ideas about music.

Here's a tiny sample of the level of musical knowledge that I'm talking about. I was going to paste in a lot more, but I don't want to be mean to people who might turn out to be really decent, nice folks.

But, note how some of these guys just don't get it - and you get a feeling that they just can't grasp this techinico musico stuff [and never will]:

"I could do without Harmony if forced..."

"Western music is all about harmony, which compensates for the lack of rhythmic and melodic subtlety (you can find that more in Eastern music).

Not sure why you grouped harmony and melody together."

Mati Bozha.

As ever,
