Every HIPper presents their case as the result of "extensive research". Every one of them say that they're giving us what really happened during the composer's lifetime.
Such conclusions can only occur as the consequence of scientific research. Otherwise, we're dealing with witchcraft.
My point is that, by and large, the things that HIPs say with regard to composers starting with Beethoven forward - ESPECIALLY THE LATE 19th cent - are pure bullshit.
