Re: Monsoon planar computer speakers

Monsoon (originally Sonogistics) has an extensive line of speakers,
varying from simple "computer speakers" for a few $ up to supposedly
full range audiophile quality $2K(which have had quite mixed reviews).
Specifically, which ones interest you? the ribbon speakers?
ribbon + cone midrange? full range? Specific model numbers would
help.I've done some experimenting with the early Monsoon ribbon speakers,
but not the later cone and full range models. The early ribbon
speakers had recommended crossovers at 200-250 Hz, depending on
precisely what they were crossed with. If purchased with the
Monsoon amplifier IMHO the best thing to do was to put a real amplifier in place of it, with a suitable electronic crossover in the
signal path. I used an early Dyna 4 channel amplifier (picked up
at a yard sale for $1), which cleaned up some but not all of the
mess in the sound.Perhaps others may have information to share, if you post more
precise model numbers.Elliott Moore
