Upgrading Amplifier for 3.5R
Posted by sean77 on January 4, 2021 at 22:36:02:
Hello,
New member but have been a maggies lover for many years. I need suggestion for an amplifier upgrade. Overall sound of the system is pretty good but just wanted to improve the midrange and high. Would love to hear more details and extension as well as sweet vocal.
Here's my current setup.
Speakers: 3.5R
Active Crossover: Marchant xm44-3 way
High (Tweeter/Mid to 3.5R): 200Hz HP12
Mid (Bass to 3.5R): 200Hz LP18, 80Hz HP24
Low (External Subwoofers): 80Hz LP24
Pre-amp: Audio Research LS26
1st Amplifier (tweeter/mid): Sonic Frontiers SFS40 stereo 40 watts per channel (uing Zero Autoformer x2 multiplier)
2nd Amplifier (bass): Wyred4Sound SX-1000 monoblocks
Using an old Energy 12" active subwoofer but at very low level right now (not fast enough)
Source: Brinkmann Bardo with Benz LPS MC / allnic 1200 phono stageI am thinking of upgrading the Sonic Frontiers. What are some of your recommendations? I want to stay with tubes. Don't really have a budget in mind but I do want to stick w/ one unit. I have no more room for monoblocks.
Thanks and look forward to your responses!
Sean
