Putting all this goop on the perforated metal screen (or "pole piece") ...

Posted by andyr on June 3, 2010 at 17:46:09:

Put your hand on the perforated metal sheet while the music is playing loud - and playing something loud and complex (not just solo lute! :-)) ).

The metal is vibrating and I can't see how this can be a good thing. It must be "colouring" the sound which the mylar is producing - which is, after all, the sound we want to hear.

So anything that can damp this vibration in the metal sheet must be a good thing, IMO.

Regards,

Andy
