RE: Very Happy New 1.6 Owner!

Posted by Billygo on April 8, 2010 at 00:05:39:

Hi there and congrats! I bought exactly the same speakers last June. My wonderfull wife added a note in my father's day card to go pick out a new pair of speakers. I wasted no time. When my power amp died 3 years ago I told my dealer I wanted an amp that could drive the 1.6s. 3 years later my dream came true. Now your fun begins. First of all there is the break in time, about 200 hours so I've read. You think they sound good now just give them some time, they keep getting better and better. From what I've read, Maggies like 2 things, tubes somewhere in the line and lots of power. The other real key thing is positioning. You'll be moving them around a lot till you find out what suits your room best. For my room about 4' out from the back wall and angled in about 15 degrees is awesome. For casual listening, due to the wife factor and how they look in the room, most of the time they are about 30" from and parallel to the back wall. Which sounds ok but when I'm doing serious listening, the above works best for me. Have fun and enjoy. I'm still playing around with mine, positioning etc. The other thing you'll notice is the quality of your recordings. The Maggies tell it the way it is. What may have sounded good on your previous speakers may sound still good but not what you expected because the Maggies are so revealing. But most of the time, with good recordings, you'll be blown away listening to what you've been missing. Listen to everything again for the first time. Enjoy and have fun!
