Check craigslist. I just did and found plenty of window A/C units for $30 to $75. That's the simple solution if you can find one that is the same size as the broken one.

Otherwise, go to the library in the afternoon heat and use the computers there for a couple hours. Just refrain from visiting your favorite porn site as you may find your access revoked.
