Re: TFA-204 designs

Posted by mqracing on March 24, 2005 at 10:25:07:

Hi Anand:

a quick comment and a quick question...

comment first :+)

the two sets of operating points you listed... each looks really good. I know from the WE data sheets that these are amongst the lowest distortion sets of oper points that they listed... not that low thd in-and-of-itself is the whole story to good sound...

i'd love to hear say your proposed circuit next to a 2A3... which puts out similar power...

I think (hunch, guess) your onto something...

question:

do you have a pair of TFA-204's in hand? If not I would recommend two different options...

first... I would encourage you (perhaps) to think of going parafeed... then, spec'ing and using the smaller 2004 juniors might be really great in your proposed circuit...

second... if you said "no parafeed"... and you did not have some 204's in hand... and you were building say the circuit with the 40 madc plate current... I'd say... contact me and let me custom airgap you a pair of 204's.... we could get nearly double the primary L than on a stock 204 while carrying 40 madc and delivering 4 watts...

just some tidbits to think about...

if you have the capability... I'd love to see a drawn out schematic...

Mike
