Phase Shift

Posted by Art J. on March 21, 2001 at 19:33:56:

There seems to be confusion about the amount of phase shift in each order of cross-over.
Some say 90d per order and others 90d for 2nd order and 6th order.Comments?
I recently solved a nagging problem with near field imaging
in my 3 way system with 2nd order xovers.I moved the tweeter xover from a 'stand alone' circuit and
connected it to the hi-pass section of the mid-range band-pass xover.Remarkable!
It seems there was one more 90d shift in the midrange circuit
(being band-pass)than the tweeter circuit.
(not 180 by reversing terminals)it didnt work.
Would I be safe in assuming there is a 90d shift between mid and low?
Would a 3rd order or 4th in the woofer correct this?.Im thinking 4th.
Maybe Im way off track. I really enjoy the asylum every day.. Art
