They're acoustic suspension with fairly low bass. Small box, closed box, bass always adds up to low efficiency. The most popular amp they were used with originally was probably the Dynaco Stereo 70, 35 watts/channel(but probably closer to 20 watts in the bass). It worked well, but a big solid state amp will probably make them sing their best.
