Doesn't matter if you use the players decoder or the amps, still has to be decoded before it is amplified! The idea behind having the decoder built into the amp is that its a shorter analogue signal path, however this is only any good if the amplifier decoder is as good or better than the one built into the DVD player. Most of the time these things are sales gimicks and have little true reference to the sound quality achieved. I want to know how a manufacturer who produces an amp that sells for $500 dollars retail reckons that they are putting in esoteric converters at that price!
