Are Plasma sets fading away in favor of LCD ?
Posted by AbeCollins on June 29, 2009 at 19:35:00:
I'm not a Sam's Club member but recently visited one of their stores with a friend who is. I saw a few rows of LCD TV's and didn't really notice any Plasma sets although there may have been a couple.
I bought my Plasma several years ago and even though the new LCD sets looked good, better than a couple years ago, I still feel that my old Plasma has a better picture. It's more 3 dimensional looking if that makes sense with the LCD images appearing "flatter". Also, as I centered myself in front of the LCD screens and walked to the left and right of center, I noticed a slight shift in picture color. Some of the LCDs were better than others in this regard but none were totally free of this effect.
Are we witnessing the demise of Plasma sets because LCDs are "good enough" and offer other benefits like less weight and possibly lower power consumption?
I haven't shopped for a TV in four years. Which manufacturers are still very committed to Plasma? Does it still make sense to consider a new Plasma purchase?
