If your TV has RCA inputs then the DVD will output the sound so your TV can use it. If your TV only has an antenna input the DVD will not work directly with it. I hope this helps. You might be able to feed the DVD sound thru your VCR to the TV. That will be a bit more complicated and will depend on the way the VCR works.
If you upgrade to a DVD you will soon want more.
