Wide Range

Hi Joe,I really haven't checked out all the different CX850 audio options -I just use standard/dolby digital out for my Classe preamp. Just for kicks, last night I did briefly play with the Wide Range in the downmixed 2ch mode (both analog and digital) for CD stereo playback and didn't notice much of a difference. Of course, it's quite a few buttons to push to switch so I wasn't able to instantaneously compare and I was too lazy to program up my pronto. Wide Range may only be a DVD dolby digital feature, perhaps something related to the "dynrng" "dynrng2" "compr" "compr2" and "dialnorm" inband volume control variables in sections 7.6, 7.7, 7.8 of the Dolby AC-3 standard - can anyone from Sony comment?
I definitely agree that the CX850 is an ergoklutz. Loading the older CX300 CD changer is much easier: the door automatically swings open, so you don't have to pull down the entire front panel. Also the CX850 is somewhat sensitive to being moved: a lot of people have reported jam problems with the CX850 after they moved the player with discs in the tray.
Yours,--andy
