It's the "pre-quel" , the beginning. The very first Enterprise on it's maiden voyage. While entertaining it's a bit muddled in the storyline.
For example, although this is represented to be the first voyage of humans in a starship, the crew includs a alien doctor. While they initially mentioned a "transporter", references to one have since been dropped.
The crew also includes a rather delectable Vulcan named T'pol which is the main reason I watch the show...
