If the Weather Report disc comes from a DSD master, and is bit-mapped back to PCM it is not a valid comparison disc.
Only a comparison where the mic feed was split to seperate DSD and LPCM encoders is a valid one. Any conversion to/from the two formats invalidates the comparison.
Perhaps Michael Bishop can chime in on the recording itself.
