Grounding issue
Posted by jeromelang on November 28, 2002 at 03:50:22:
SCD-1/SCD-777ES both may have disadvantage in a test with XA777ES because of their 3-pin grounding, which puts them vunerable to ground noise pollution in some listening rooms.
This results in smeared imaging and shrunkened soundstage. As many have also found out, transparency is greatly improved when grounding is disconnected from mains.
XA777ES is not grounded internally.
In a one to one comparison with same 3-pin powercord, both SCD-1 and SCD777ES may come across as being more upfront, with its soundstage narrower than the SCD-XA777ES. That is something many people are not awared of.
