Earphones or headphones do not usually connect directly to a digital interface which is what USB is. They connect using an analogue port such as a 6.3 0r 3.5mm jack. Wireless 'phones usually use Blue Tooth for connection although other proprietary systems exist for home type wireless headphones ( such as from Sony or Sennheiser). Recent i-phones lacking a headphone socket may require a Lightning/headphone adaptor, otherwise see the link.

The USB port on, say, a phone or tablet is normally used to connect a DAC or DAC/amplifier which may have a suitable jack socket for the 'phones, for example the Dragonfly range from Audioquest (3.5mm jack).

Adaptors are available to enable DACs with USB A ports to connect to USB C ones.
