The PortaPro is a great suggestion. I had a pair of these for ages until my wife stole them. Just bought a second pair which are as good as my old pair (probably about 10-15 years old at this point)

Very comfortable to wear and the sound quality is quite decent. The only negative is that they don't provide much acoustic isolation for air travel.
