RE: Wretched excess - tonearms

Posted by Byrd69 on August 4, 2023 at 07:33:23:

Impressive arms are...impressive.

I use an EMT 928 table with a 929 arm. The arm doesn't look like anything special. Not impressive. The person who mounted the Pickering cartridge and setup the arm is nobody special...that's me.

How does it sound? Excellent.

Many times when I lower the stylus to the LP, I have to peek to make sure it's down. I can't hear a thing coming through the speakers. It is dead silent from the lead in grooves to the end.

Whoever set that up sure knew what they weren't doing.

Tables and excessive costs:

EMT 928 w/928 arm & broken Shure V15 III $free 2005
Bang and Olufsen 4004 $895 in 1980
Empire 598 Troubadour $45 2002
Kenner Close 'n Play with SME V ver. 3-77b.2 $7.95 (Santa) 1966 SME arm not included. That came next Christmas.

Too much should be enough.
