I greatly admire the craftsmanship that goes into these products. If I had the disposable income for both the products and a suitable listening space, I'd certainly give them an audition.

I watched the video again this morning, plus some others available both on OWA's website as well as on YouTube.

One of the things that got me was how good it all sounded even through this computer audio system I used for playback. Admittedly, I've got a combination that (I think, anyway) is better than basic computer speakers connected to the internal computer sound sub-system, but it's not thousands of dollars of gear. Not close.

So, what's the reason for this? Most rips of CDs played back through the very same system here do not sound nearly as appealing, realistic, or engaging. Even most higher than CD resolution recordings don't sound as good.

Maybe it's as simple as the quality of the recordings. Perhaps he has a point, in a more general sense than he suggests in the CBS interview. Perhaps most modern recordings or "remixes" are aimed toward a listener who is using earbuds or simple headphones with a fancy phone, and the recordings are not at all created with the idea of actually sounding good or realistic. Just supply the beat and make the lyrics audible enough to sing along to. Hey - in the end, it's a business that is trying to sell what the customer base will buy.

I don't know the answer, but would certainly like to find out.
