What you bring up here invokes another angle on all this. The music industry is bitching and whining about losing money, which they attribute to downloading and copying. What they are not realizing is that most of what they put out is junk and not worth buying.

Same with movies, no more plot needed, just stupid camera tricks. I sat through a documentary the other day and every time they changed pictures on the screen they had some special effect. Zoom in and out three times in two seconds, scramble the picture like the old cable did, white out. Do they think that brings my attention to this ? They almost make you think your TV is broken.

Most of the creativity is gone, and what is left will not be "discovered" because of favoritism. You used to send a demo tape in to a radio station and if the DJ thought it was any good he would play it. People would call and ask who that is.

Since the youngins are listening to junk they might as well listen to it on junk. Eventually you might get the chance to expose them to something good, especially on a good system. And I don't care how good those earbuds are, or headphones, nothing beats a good pair of speakers properly placed in a good listening environment. You think those brown note cannons work on your ears ? Hell no. This is why people go to concerts.

Seems like every generation scoffs at the next generation's music. I don't really want to become part of that but they really are putting out shit.

So now, they have changed the copyright laws so that stuff that was in public domain no longer is. I can't say for sure, but I bet a good piece of their income comes from old stuff.

One of the most innovative bands was the Beatles, followed by Pink Floyd. There were a few others, but we no longer have bands like that. Well we might but if they don't know anyone in the business they will play in their basement.

What's more, people don't usually know that they are listening to a remake, or as they're called - a cover. So any songs I heard even in the 1960s and 1970s I thought were new were actually remakes from the 1950s or earlier.

Most of my stuff was in public domain, and I did not get a check. I bought Double Live Bullet three times. They got like over eighty bucks of my money and all the copies are gone, one I never even got to listen to. I had a wallful of vinyl. I had a whole case of CDs, bunch of cassettes and even eight tracks. If anyone thinks I owe them for downloading music then replace all that media for the cost of the media. I don't have any Celine Dion or Beyonce or whatever.
