RE: Some climates and poly rugs have static charge that can zap cables on floor

My experience supports what you've read. In my last house, the listening room was carpet on a concrete pad. Don't know what the carpet was made of (poly or nylon or what), but there was a definite improvement getting the speaker cables off the floor. Couldn't tell any difference with power cords, and interconnects didn't touch the floor anyway. In my current house, it's a suspended hardwood floor, and I can't tell any difference with the speaker cables on the floor or in the air. Different cables between houses too, so perhaps the cable design plays a factor in addition to the environment.
