It's really simple isn't it? If there is not much of a middle class left to sell to then you have to sell to rich people, who inherently think that quality and price are intimately linked. So, you jack up your prices to cater to their egos about having to have the best and you maybe even sell more than you did previously. You also get the attention of the ego maniacs reviewing these days who will say your gear is the best of the best...this month.
