After a few days, sometimes CDs will not read the beginning of the traks, even though it read table of content

When I turn it off and back on, then press play, I hear a mild whirring sound, and the Cd starts normally. Then for say a week it will change discs normally, then starts getting stuck once in awhile again.
Seems the player is not pulling in the laser correctly sometimes to start the first track, but turn off/on fixes that for awhile.
If I just ignore the failure to start, it does eventually find the start, but it can take five minutes!
