Frankly I have...

no desire to "snag an idiot" as they tend to make very bad customers in any event. Rethinking the thing I must say that anything that acts as an "idot filter" would be a good thing for the seller (if seller actually works in good faith). Still, from what sellers have told me, even when they put in everything that is possible the idiots still get it wrong.
The Mac company probably is having problems with sellers that do deliberately tell folk that the thing is still under warranty. I doubt that there are many cases of misunderstanding an ad as clear as Ethanns was.
If my "idiot detector" tells me that an idiot is trying to buy a computer from me I send him to Staples with blessings. I have found, painfully, that idiots cost way too much to support.
I would have NO problem making a clarification to a prospective buyer, nor would I have any problems making such clarifications part of the next ad if they can save me future trouble, but I can see Ethann's point about not giving in to bullying tactics (even if they would have saved him time in the end).
I think that is what the whole thing is about. I have no doubt that Ethann would probably include warranty info as a matter of course in his next ad. But, it is my contention that he did nothing wrong here, and that the Mac people got his back up by acting in an imperious manner (if all is as represented...and the rest of the disclaimer...). If someone told me I HAD to put their text in an ad for something I paid outright for and own, and am using standard known english in the ad with no reference to warranty etc, I would tell them to piss up a rope too! At least I would have when younger; now I am too tired to argue.....
