Building a Remote Control

Hi,
Kind of a weird question I suppose. Does anybody know of comapnies that build a custom remote control? I've got a Joule Electra LA-150 preamp which I love (but I hate the cheap plastic remote). It only effects volume and balance, but I'd like something heavier to do the same thing (I'm thinking something like Bryston's solid metal remote). Is this too strange, or is there someone out there who can build me a remote using the same frequency as my cheap plastic one?
