As you know, all things are relative. All tubes are not the same, and all tube amps are certainly not the same. With adjustments, like caps, PS and chokes, you can alter the sound of any amp quite a bit. The tube compliment, circuit topology, biasing, and things like plate voltages also make [sonic] differences.
Have you listened to low power DHT with high sensitivity horns or FR speakers, or has your experience been limited to high power beam tetrode, parallel PP amps, with low eff, multi-way speakers? I can't begin to tell you how many speakers use cheap shitty tweeters, and equally harsh x-o parts in all the wrong places.
I have found that listening to tube amps if quite difficult, since few dealers carry much of a selection. You may be more fortunate, but I have never seen any DHT amps in the solons I have visited, although I have heard many KT88, EL34, and various other PP offerings. In all fairness, this is hardly a good representation of what tubes sound like.
Have you heard any OTL amps, like Atmosphere?
You probably would like them, coupled with some bug BR speakers. Of course, you may be the 'one in a million', who just doesn't like tubes.... There is just no accounting for human nature, and it provides us all with much challenge and entertainment. :)BTW do you love rap?
