feel bad movie of the year

Andy irons, touched by god , is the name of the movie, I just saw.

It follows the surf champ andy irons from childhood until death. Guy had massive bi polar swings, lots of self medication, and addiction got the better of him as he was trying to get back to his true love and unborn son.

Probably coming to your town sometime soon , he died from addiction, primarily oxicotone withdrawal on a bad heart , and the plan is to show the film around the nation as a part of teen age drug prevention.

Pretty interesting film about two brothers who had a dad who was a champion ski racer and raised his boys to be competitive, real competitive. Andy got a pro sponsorship at 11, and, shortly after, his little brother got sponsored at age 8. You follow the boys from childhood to men as competitive surfers, where andy won multiple world championships, often fueled by his bi polar insanity. Not easy to do for normal folk, he repeated three times in a row, plus won it a couple of times again, trading off between him and kelly slater, his enemy, the man he wanted to crush, as an open goal.

I thought it a very memorable movie, one you will see as an insight into bipolar illness woven around the very interesting island and pro surf culture, he ran with a pack of local Hawaiian surfers. Where ,unless you know someone, quick extreme violence is always the answer for kooks like you.

ONe tip, if you go to see this movie, wait until the house lights come up to leave. Almost all the crowd left at what looked like the end credits, which they were. But instead of ending with the credits, it went into an after film discussion, as if it were a live event, followed by some short filmed statements from people in the film, just to add a bit , Like kelly slater tells how he finally fought the guy, after extreme provocation, stuff like that . Leaving before the house lights come up is a rookie mistake, but understandable with some films.
