Terrific..

I have had big screen withdrawal and with the holiday I finally made it back.

This was a wild mashup of classic 60s monster movie, Cold War thriller and love story. I could not have expected such a combination to work but it is quite brilliant. From the 60s setting, the music, the black and white tv shows, it's a detailed fantasy world.

And the key is Sophie Hawkins, who is mute and so must communicate all through gesture, expression, and movement, harking back to silent movies and she owns it in a way that should bring her acting awards aplenty.

The monster or animal or whatever he is is another incredibly original visual creation.

There is the tension of a thriller, the pure good against evil of melodrama, and a love story that works. A great one to see on a big screen.
